The Best Equipment to Start Your Home Gym

There are some people who love going to the gym. Others don’t feel the same way. Maybe it’s that you don’t like the commute, or working out in front of others – or perhaps it’s using gym equipment left dripping with sweat after an inconsiderate gym member finishes up on the machine you hoped to use.

Whatever the reason, you don’t have to fork over a monthly or annual fee to use a gym anymore. There are dozens of space-saving pieces of equipment you can invest in that will benefit you in more ways than one.

First, the cost savings will be incredible. These machines are built to last for years, so you won’t have to pay monthly fees for your fitness. You can find all sorts of price points for high and low ticket equipment, and it’s usually only a matter of extra features that raises the cost – not durability or functionality.

Second, you’ll find that you might be more apt to work out if the equipment is right in the comfort of your own home, instead of 15 minutes away. This is very helpful is you’re on a tight schedule or have kids – or even if there’s bad weather outside.

You’ll never have to wait for a machine to open up, or worry about your safety going to and from the gym, either. You’ll have it available to you any time of day – and you can build a home gym that contains only your favorite equipment.

You might start with one cardio machine such as a treadmill, stationary bike, or elliptical machine. These are the high end items, but you can find them priced anywhere from around $100 to thousands, depending on which cool features you can live without.

Add some strength training items to the mix. You can either begin with simple dumbbells that start off small in weight and grow as you get stronger, or invest in a weight bench with a barbell if you have more room.

You can also add other elements for your home gym, such as a jump rope for some of the best cardio and fat burning workouts you’ve ever had. Or get some bands for resistance weight training.

If you have a room dedicated to your workouts, where you’re creating an actual home gym (not just buying equipment to store in a corner or closet), then make it a place where you’ll want to spend time.

Add a sound system and television to the room so that you can have entertainment as you work out, just like many gyms have. You also want to invest in a mirror so you can see if your form is correct as you work out.
